Started 29 November 2009 - Completed 31 December 2009

This is the first boxing from 2003. A problem with this kit was apparently the nose shape was off. Comparing the kit with photos shows the nose profile bulges too much on top. Roll on to this year and Leading Edge Decals release their version of the Canadian markings. On their instruction sheet they point out 3 areas that can be improved on in the Airfix kit. The nose, main landing gear doors and top vent ramps.

Vents and gear doors have been modified. After dipping the canopy and windscreen in Klear, they were set aside in a plastic tub to cure for about 3 days. Last night I dug out the canopy and painted on some Humbrol #166 (Acrylic) into the MDC. After allowing it to dry for 30 minutes, I used moistened Q-tips to remove the excess paint.
I also painted up the cockpit and other parts required to be in either Humbrol #165 or #166 Greys. Once the cockpit has been fitted, and the fuselage has been joined, I shall attempt to rebuild the nose to the correct shape. Also I painted the inside rear of the intakes with Humbrol #130 Satin White, masked them, and will paint the front half with Humbrol #15 tonight.

Nearly finished reshaping the nose. I filled the space with lead shot and closed up the hole with plasticard. I then puttied and sanded to get the rough shape. I then masked up the canopy and windscreen. I pinned the canopy so I can dsiplay it open or closed, and then glued the windscreen on using Gator glue. Once glue is dried I shall finish the nose to windscreen join.
added a few wires to the main landing gear.

It is now 3 days since I sprayed Humbrol #15 over the body and I will be giving it until next weekend to dry. I will then sand out the "orange peel" on the wings and Klear coat all parts.

What is it they say, "one step forward, 2 steps back".
Whilst rubbing down the orange peel on several areas, I managed to break through to the primer, so I have had to go back over and respray. Another couple of days wait, until I can seal everything with Klear.
I finally have finished the build tonight. The decals went on superbly, and since then I have been adding the last parts, with the canopy and seats going on last. I have not glued the seats in, as I may put some aftermarket seats in at a late date.
