A look in the BIG box

The Wings:-

The Tail, Nose and Intakes:-

The Fuselage Halves, Bulkheads (white), Rubber Tires (black), and the Undercarriage (silver grey)

The Base, Clear parts and the bag of extras (includes 2 Paintbrushes, Clearfix, Glue, Acrylic Paints, Metal Rods for the MLG, and a screw for the base):-

The Undercarriage bays and doors, Underwing fairings (white), and the Exhaust sections, Front Engine Faces (Black):-

And the Flip-Top Box it all fits in:-

If youll notice the ruler in all the pics - thats a 15" ruler just to give an idea of the size

Decals (Had to scan in 4 parts as the sheet is a little bit bigger than A4 :D ):-

For £20 it is looking good. Also looking over the instructions, it seems as if there is the option for a moveable nose. I might just test fit it over the weekend.

Well I couldnt resist. Here some pics in the initial stages.

Cockpit

Note - the back of the engineers console is hollow, so I added some plasticard to hole where it would be shown through the cockpit window.

Now the test fit of the fuselage and wings. So far this measures in at 75cm Long and 36cm Wide.

and finally the base

Another size comparison for the non-Phantom fans

Airfixs 1/144 scale Concorde

Then we have a slight hiccup... whilst trying to carry out this step in the instructions, I think I forced a bit too hard as there was the characteristic tinkle of plastic floating around where it shouldnt.

Sure enough on prying the cockpit apart there was part of the heat shield mechanism floating around inside. Will have to see if I can salvage this, or just glue the nose in the drooped position.

Good news (I hope) . I think I have managed to repair the damage (See above and #1 in below pic). The damage occured whilst trying to join the two halves of the cockpit together. The heat shield mechanism is hinged at #2 and in the area shown in the nose. The rear of the nose is hinged between the cockpit. The heat shield is hinged at the 4 points #3. All these must be fixed together, needless to say it was a PITA to try to line everything up, and hence the broken piece. To solve this I have drilled out the hinge point #1 and will insert a 1.0mm wire through the nose and hinge once cockpit is together

After managing to break the heat shield/visor mechanism about 5 times I have given up, in this particular build, on having a movable nose. Ive glued the Shield and Nose in the straight position. Lots of putty will be required this weekend to fill the gaps.

I have now assembled the main fuselage and wings, added the nose/cockpit section and the tail section. Now up to this point in construction I have followed the instructions. As can be seen from the following pictures, I am thinking a different approach may be necessary in the next build.

The result of a few days filling, sanding, filling, sanding ....

All the extra bits - Undercarriage, Engines and Gear doors - ready for paint.

Due to the sheer size of this and the fact it is White, I decided to use Halfords White Primer Spraycan as an undercoat and Halfords Gloss Appliance White (the spraycan you use for Fridges). This is the resultant mess, white dust everywhere. Why couldnt they have released this kit in the Summer.

The Wheel bays masked off ready for the yellows.

And the paint results.

The engines have turned out very nice so far. I used Humbrols Metalcote Gunmetal #27004, polished and looks great. I just have to spray the middle of the engine pods Semi Gloss black and they be ready for attachment

I made a lot of progress over the weekend. I attached the engine nacelles, after decalling them (advisable at this stage), the undercarriage and all of the gear doors. During the process of decalling I managed to knock some of the doors off, so they will remain off (along with the top antenna) until finished. I am in two minds as to the decals themselves. While the quality was good, they bedded down nicely, having to touch up the main markings with paint is not my cup of tea. If I ever do this scheme again, I think Ill paint the markings from scratch.

Completed 23/10/2004

I have carried out the paint touch ups required and applied the antennas and the bits I managed to knock off whilst painting/decalling. I tried to fill in the windows with Clearfix as shown in the instructions, but after 30 minutes I had only managed to fill 2 windows. So I fell back to my other method of using PVA white glue. All windows done in about 10 minutes. Here are the final shots.
