Flightline Vietnam
Heres how I created the graphic for the base I use for simulating a typical flight line from Vietnam.
For this example I created a new 640 x 480 picture in Photoshop. For an A4 sized picture in 300DPI you need a 2482 x 3510 size.

Start with a base colour (RGB 182,182,146) |

Next add use an Add Noise filter .... |

and use a Guassian Blur filter. This will give you your base. |

On a new layer, add some basic 1 pixel lines to create the slab joints |

Copy this layer, and turn it off. Using the copied layer use a Blur More filter several times, until happy. |

Turn off the previous layer and make a copy of the original Line layer. Select the new copy lines and expand the selection by 5 pixles, and fill with black. |

Use a Guassian Blur filter. |

Turn back on the other layers. |

Add new layers for different elements you would like for example taxi lines and oil spills. The oil spills were created using different sized brushes. |

and then a Guassian Blur applied. |
