Proposed Scheme - F16N Topgun Two Bobs decals #72029

Lovely paintjob!!

12 January 2007

This kit is the Hasegawa F-16N kit, which is the same as the Hasegawa F-16C #00611 but with different decals. I bought this to see what mod's would be required to convert the F-16C's into F-16N's. All the sprues are the same, with the only extras being required for the F-16N was the two intakes ECM pods. I had also purchased Eduards F-16CJ PE set and I am adding most of it to this build. The other two will only receive some of the parts, like cockpit, exhaust nozzle and sidewinder rails.

I started these builds during the Christmas holidays but due to work commitments the builds have been slow going. On to the pics...

Now I have realised I have forgotten to add the RHAWS bumps, so I will do those next before painting the wheel wells and intakes.

18 January 2006

After attaching the RHAWS bumps to the forward fuselage, I sprayed Humbrol #130 (satin white) into the wheel wells and intakes. After these had cured overnight, I stuffed them with Blu-Tac and then sprayed the lightest base colours.

L-R: #42 Humbrol #28 (FS36622), #01 Humbrol #147 (FS36495) and #41 Humbrol #121 (FS33531)

Giving them overnight to cure, I then started the masking of #42 - in the end it took me about 6 hours over 4 days to complete.

This morning I came in early and sprayed the final colour of Humbrol #116 (FS34079). I set it to one side to cure, until this evening and then proceeded to remove the masking tape and Blu-Tac. There are some areas that will need a little touch-up but it seems OK to me. We shall how good it is when I come to apply the split colour decals.

Now this nightmare is over I shall start on the other two Vipers, before going any further on this.

All paints schemes completed.

Next step will be to carry out any touch ups, before glossing with Klear for decals.

04 February 2007

After completeing the decalling on the 24th, I was hit by the Flu for about a week, so I didn't get much done for a while. After sealing in the decals, I applied a Paynes Grey Oil wash and set to one side to cure.

Next step was to apply a Pollyscale Flat finish and remove the masking from the canopy. After attaching the landing gear and doors, I painted the lights and bare metal parts, fitted the Instrument panel, Eduard PE HUD and seat.
