Started 1 October 2008 - Completed 13 December 2008
This is another on/off project I started back in October.
My main purpose was to see how well the "new" formula for S.C. Johnson's Klear faired in a build.
I had already masked up the canopy before I bought one of the new bottles, but I have tested it on a Revell Jaguar canopy and I am not impressed. Whilst the liquid sprays and covers very well, it is much more liquid than the original formula, which means it tends to run more easily. The Revell canopy I doubled dipped does not seem to be as clear, but has sealed it OK.
The construction went very quick, and I cut slots into the wings to enable them to be painted separately. The cockpit, which has no details, was painted black and the masked canopy glued on with PVA glue. All parts were painted with Xtracrylix FS16440, then sealed with the new formula Klear. As mentioned the new formula tends to run more than the original, so be careful in misting on your light coats.
Applying the decals took some time, as they were reluctant to separate from the backing paper, and not very much adhesive was left when it did. I used a lot of Micro-Set and Micro-Sol to get them to stick and then sealed them in a couple coats of Klear.
A coat of Promodellers Dark Grey wash was applied, left to dry for an hour, then cleaned back, and finally sealed with a 50/50 mix of Xtracrylix Flat and Tamiya Thinners.
