Well I have started on my ARC F-15 Group Build aircraft today. Most of what I have done today is minor assemblies and start of the painting.

3 Jan 2006

Cockpit halfway done. Just need to flat coat, add some colour to some of the switches and paint the CRT Screens.

6 Jan 2005

Nose section now joined

The engines, pitots, ladder and sway braces painted with Alclad Steel. I removed the mould seam from the main canopy and restored the glass using Micromesh and then dipped in Klear

The main fuselage is now glued together - just need to go over the gaps at the underside wing roots.

and last shot showing the intakes masked off and stuffed with sponge for when the Gunship Gray main coat is applied.

09 Jan 2006

Spent most of the weekend continuing with the main assembly. I think I'm nearly ready for applying the base coat, just need figure out how to mask the nose landing gear.

Heres my progress on the seats. Just need to apply a wash, flat coat and then add some drybrushing.

15 Jan 2006

Main base coat of Humbrol #125 applied.

and seats washed and flat coated.

19 Jan 2006

Twobobs decals applied, a Pollyscale flat coat applied and masking removed from bare metal areas, wheel bays, and canopy.

and dirtied up the inside of the exhuasts using chalk pastels.

Whilst doing the fiddly bits on the final stages of the build, I was test fitting the drop tanks to the wing pylons. This consists of attaching two sway braces to bottom of the pylon, then attaching the tank. The fit is excellent however the protrusions on the sway braces that locate to the tank just "kiss" the holes and do not look to give a very secure attchment.

So I measured the holes on the tank - 1mm, and drilled through the center of the sway braces and the the pylon attachment points.

Then using 1mm copper wire, slid this through the braces and into the pylon, then into the top of the tank.

Looks and feels much better. Just need to spray the wire with some Alclad Steel and jobs a good 'un.
